This is the first report of the addition of propyl and phenyl mercaptans at the double bond in the methyl ester of 1-methylcyclopropene-3-carboxylic acid with the formation of esters of thio-substituted cyclopropanecarboxylic acids in 67-72percent yield.The addition of the thio group proceeds selectively at the least substituted atom of the double bond in the position anti to the methoxycarbonyl group.
