The sheets are linked the pyridyl moieties which form “pillars”
between the layers producing a dense non-interpenetrated 3D
connectivity (Figure 6) with a crb/BCT topology (point symbol
{4.65})27.

In summary, we have demonstrated the use of a hetero-
functional ligand approach which combines aspects of both the
well-established pillaring and reticular strategies for the
synthesis of 3D coordination polymers. Further studies will
investigate the use of this approach with different transition
metals.
