expands previous limited N-protected dihypyrroles in the
Povarov reaction and provides a new route for the synthesis of
diverse pyrroloquinoline derivatives. We believe that this
intramolecular hydroamination cyclization of alkyne constitutes
a particularly striking example of a one-pot reaction for the
rapid assembly of molecular complexity, which should prove
highly valuable in the context of the diversity-oriented
synthesis. Our ongoing studies focus on an asymmetric variant
and its extension toward the synthesis of other heterocyclic
scaffolds.
