In the reaction of Fe^II(por) species with I(MeCN)>+ and O2 to give μ-oxo<(por)Fe^III-O-Cu^IIL>+ 3 (por = porphyrinate, L = tetradentate ligand), copper-dioxygen adducts or their decomposition products must be present, otherwise <(por)Fe^III-OH> or <(por)Fe^III-O-Fe^III(por)> products appear; a novel synthesis of square-planar Fe^II(por) is also described.
