During propylation of the same arylindole 1 with propyl bromide under analogous conditions a single
reaction product, [4-(1-propyl-2-indolyl)phenyl]phenylmethane (9), was obtained.
Alkylation of the 2-arylindoles 1 and 6 with benzyl chloride under Friedel–Crafts conditions led to
complete resinification of the reaction mixture.
