acetates [12, 13]. Second, water molecules are most
likely involved not only in the first stage but also in subseꢀ
quent reaction stages. Owing to the oxophilic nature and
variable CN of rare earth acetates, water molecules are
readily incorporated in the coordination sphere of the
initial, intermediate, and ultimate reaction products.
This is responsible for a wider diversity of the reaction
products as compared to those observed in the Pd–3dꢀ
metal reaction system. The above results demonstrate
that complexation and hydrolytic processes in the reacꢀ
tion system strongly depend on both the initial Pd : Ln
ratio and the solvent and isolation procedure and
accounts, in many respects, for the diversity of the resultꢀ
ing heterometallic complexes.
