NITRO DERIVATIVES OF PYRROLO[3,2-d]PYRIMIDINE-2,4-DIONES:
1571
The mixture was cooled to room temperature, and the
precipitate was filtered off, washed with glacial acetic
acid, 5% aqueous sodium carbonate, water, and
ethanol, and dried at 100–110°C. The product showed
yellow fluorescence in DMSO solution and in crystal.
Yield 70 mg (83%), mp >320°C. IR spectrum, ν, cm–1:
pyrimidine-2,4(1H,3H)-dione (14). A mixture of
0.18 g (0.86 mmol) of diamine 7 and 2 mL (20 mmol)
of acetylacetone was refluxed for 3.5 h. An additional
1 mL (9.8 mmol) of acetylacetone was added, and the
mixture was heated to the boiling point and filtered
while hot. The filtrate was cooled, and the light yellow
crystals were filtered off, washed with 2–3 mL of
ethanol, and dried at 100–110°C. Yield 75 mg (25%).
The mother liquor was evaporated, the residue was
treated with 5–7 mL of ethyl acetate, and the undis-
solved material was filtered off, washed with 2–3 mL
of ethyl acetate, and dried at 100–110°C. We thus
isolated an additional 80 mg (26%) of enamine 14.
Overall yield 51%, mp 285–286°C. IR spectrum, ν,

dione (12). A solution of 87 mg (0.48 mmol) of ace-
naphthenequinone in 6 mL of glacial acetic acid was
heated to 80–90°C, and 0.1 g (0.48 mmol) of diamine
7 was added. The mixture rapidly darkened, and a light
yellow solid precipitated. The suspension was refluxed
for 15 min and cooled to room temperature, and the
precipitate was filtered off, washed with glacial acetic
acid, 5% aqueous sodium carbonate, water, and
ethanol, and dried at 100–110°C. The product showed
yellow fluorescence in DMSO solution and in crystal.

A solution of 0.202 g (0.96 mmol) of benzil in 4 mL of
glacial acetic acid was heated to the boiling point,
0.2 g (0.96 mmol) of diamine 7 was added, and the
mixture was refluxed for 30 min. The yellow precip-
itate was filtered off, washed with glacial acetic acid,
5% aqueous sodium carbonate, and water, and dried
at 100–110°C. The product showed greenish–yellow
fluorescence in DMSO solution and yellow fluores-
cence in crystal. Yield 183 mg (50%), mp 320–321°C.
