A three-step procedure for large scale preparation of pure racemic 2,3-diaminobutane from relatively inexpensive meso 2,3-butanediol is described. Also, an efficient method for the resolution of (S,S) 2,3-diaminobutane from the racemic mixture in <95% ee has been developed.
