An acetylene-linked dimeric complex has been prepared from the reaction of with PhC2MPPh3 (M = Ag or Au) or in CH2Cl2.An X-ray structure determination revealed that the product was not the expected acetylene derivative or <2Hg>, but contained two units linked by a C-C bond to give the dimer <.
