A physico-chemical characterization of the cluster-type RHENIUM TELLURIDE (cas 12067-00-4) Re6Te15

The structure of a cluster-type RHENIUM TELLURIDE (cas 12067-00-4) of composition Re6Te15 was determined which is the only thermodynamically stable phase in the system rhenium-tellurium. The structure of Re6Te15 can be envisaged as cosisting of cluster complexes [Re6Te8]Te6 which are held together throgh tellurium atoms. The charge density distribution on atoms in the compounds Re6Te15, Re6Te4Br10, Re6Se4Br10, Re6Se4Cl10 containing an octa-chedral cluster Re6 were determined by X-ray spectroscopy. The thermodynamical constants of Re6Te15 formation were determined (ΔHoT = −355.7 kcal/mole; ΔSoT = 284.5 cal/molexgrad).
