Chromium(III) heterocomplexes—II: Isothiocyanato-complexes of chromium(III) with benzimidazole and 2-methylbenzimidazole☆

Chromium(III) heterocomplexes, H[Cr(NCS)4(BzH)2]·C2H5OH, H[Cr(NCS)4(MeBzH)2]·2H2O, and [Cr(NCS)2(MeBzH)4][Cr(NCS)4(MeBzH)2]·8H2O where BzH = benzimidazole = C7H6N2, and MeBzH = 2-methylbenzimidazole = C8H8N2, have been prepared by substitution in K3[Cr(NCS)6]. Their μeff values at room temperature lie between 3·70 and 3·92 B.M. The i.r. spectra of the complexes reveal the presence of N-bonded thiocyanate groups. Spectral parameters Δ, B, and β of the complexes have been evaluated.
