Phenol derivatives containing 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine group were successfully benzoylated with both benzoyl chloride in the presence of aluminium chloride and benzotrichloride in aqueous sodium hydroxide solution. The 2-Hydroxybenzophenone (cas 117-99-7) UV-absorbers bearing light stabilizing fragment — 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine nucleus — were synthesized in this way.
