Of the invertebrate neuropeptides that have C-terminal RF-NH2, NPF, short neuropeptide F (sNPF), and RYamide are the regulatory peptides in feeding behavior. Therefore, these peptides are thought to be invertebrate counterpart peptides to mammalian neuropeptide Y. NPF plays numerous roles in physiological events, including reproduction behavior and feeding behavior. In particular, the contribution of NPF to regulation of feeding behavior is the predominant function in invertebrates. The regulatory mechanisms of NPF signaling are to some degree involved in the insulin signaling cascade.
