1,2-Naphthoquinone thiosemicarbazone has been immobilized on derivatised silica gel and used for the preconcentration of copper from large sample volumes. 1,2-Naphthoquinone thiosemicarbazone has very attractive cation-binding properties and the immobilization technique has resulted in the preparation of a good stationary phase for the chelation-chromatographic separation of copper ions in aqueous phases. The silica-bound 1,2-naphthoquinone thiosemicarbazone produced has been studied for its stability, exchange capacity, and breakthrough volumes.
