Some chemical and physical properties of phenazocine hydrobromide are presented, including X-ray diffraction data and infrared curves on three known crystalline forms. A schematic representation of a method of synthesis is included. Several color reactions and microchemical tests are given which can be used to differentiate phenazocine from codeine salts, morphine salts, and meperidine hydrochloride. Formulas for clinically acceptable ampuls and multiple-dose vials are presented along with stability data on these dosage forms.
