Hydrazinium ion vibrational motion and proton transport in lithium hydrazinium sulfate

Polarized Raman scattering spectra are measured over a temperature interval from 15 to 300 K in single crystal lithium hydrazinium sulfate. No unusual temperature-dependent behavior is observed in any mode involving hydrazinium ion translatory motion, but all librational modes and the internal mode markedly decrease in intensity and frequency, while significantly broadening. An analysis of the bandwidth and frequency data allows assignment of these modes to librations either perpendicular to or parallel to the internuclear axis.
