Aryl azides have been found to add to unactivated olefins, providing a convenient route to alkyl subsituted triazolines. Similarly, conjugated dienes undergo cycloaddition with azides to give 5-vinyltriazoline derivatives. The orientation of the additions accords with previously reported mechanistic considerations, and it appears to be controlled by electronic rather than steric factors.
