"Armniprotsvetmet", (1-2), 45-7 (Russian) 1975. CODEN: TANPBG. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 51 (Fossil Fuels, Derivatives, and Related Products) Section cross-reference(s): 59 Comparison of the operation of internal combustion engines under normal conditions on different grades of gasoline showed that the addn. of 1 g per kg of fuel of a mixt. contg. tricarbonylcyclopentadienylmanganese [12079-65-1] (22%), thiophene, EtBr, tricresyl phosphate, and PhMe significantly reduced the CO content of the exhaust gases. This was because the MnO2, formed by the combustion of the Mn additive, catalyzed the oxidn. of CO to CO2. The effect was greatest when the excess air coeff. was .apprx.1.0. The Mn additive did not cause any significant increase in the formation of harmful oxides of N.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 51 (Fossil Fuels, Derivatives, and Related Products) Mn cyclopentadienyltricarbonyl (I) [12079-65-1] and I-contg. additive Ts 8 [64553-52-2] were used to decrease deposit formation in marine diesel engines. Thus, addn. of 0.2 g/kg I to diesel fuel (d.20 0.869, initial b.p. 167.degree., 85% distd. at 380.degree., viscosity 11.84 cSt at 20.degree., and contents of S 1.31, resinous matter 26, H2O 0.60, and mech. impurities 0.097%) decreased only intake valve carbon deposits, but 1 g/kg Ts 8 decreased deposit formation on intake valves, cylinder covers, and piston bottoms by factors of 2.8, 3.7, and 5.0, resp.
