  • During the hot summer days, how to eat healthily and nutritiously has become a big concern for many people. Based on the adjustment of the diets, you'd better adhere to six principles of diets in summer.

    First, eat regularly. In summer, you should take meals on time, rather than according to your own willingness. Otherwise, it will cause physiological disorders of the stomach, and induce stomach illness.

    Second, eat lightly seasoned food. Because of the high temperature in summer, people tend to sweat more and drink more. As a result, the gastric acid will be easily diluted, and the secretion of digestive juice will be relatively reduced, which will weaken the digestive function, leading to loss of appetite. In such a case, if you eat too much greasy food, it will bring harms to the stomach, affecting the digestion and absorption of the nutrients. Therefore, it is appropriate to eat some bland food in summer, such as mung bean, watermelon, buckwheat, chicken, duck, goose, carp, soy-bean milk, pear and so on.

    Third, collocate food well with each other. For the diets in summer, we should pay attention to the reasonableness of the food structure, and focus on the collocation of the food. Flour and rice should be well accompanied by coarse food grains. We should eat three meals of coarse food grains a week. Dilute food should be matched properly with dry food. For example, cooked wheaten food and soy-bean milk for the breakfast; rice for the lunch, and gruel for the supper. Meat dishes and vegetables should be collocated appropriately, with vegetables such greens, melons, beans as the main dishes, and accompanied by some meat dishes such as meat and shrimp.

    Fourth, have more porridge. In summer, it is not appropriate to supplement too much nutrition to our body. It is better to eat less greasy food but eat more food which can relieve summer heat, such as mung bean porridge, hyacinth bean porridge, lotus leaf porridge and so on. For example, mung bean porridge contains various kinds of vitamins and inorganic salts, such as calcium, phosphorus, iron and so on. What's more, mung bean porridge has many functions, such as detoxifying, relieving summer heat, quenching thirst, preventing heat stroke and so on.

    Fifth, avoid raw and cold food. During the hot summer, it really can make people feel comfortable to eat some cold food or drink cold beverage properly. However, you should not eat or drink too much of these food, as too much of them may damage the spleen and stomach, affect the appetite, and even lead to gastrointestinal dysfunction. Especially for the elderly and children, they should pay special attention to it.

    Sixth, do not overeat. You should not eat too much in summer, especially at dinner. Particularly for the elderly and children, whose digestive ability is not very strong in the first place, and is even worse in summer, if they eat too much, it will cause indigestion and easily damage the spleen and stomach, thus causing stomach troubles.
