The interaggregate exchange reaction of Cu5Mes5 (Mes = C6H4Me3-2,4,6) with Cu4(OBz04 (OBz = O2CPh) in benzene or toluene afforded the trinuclear cluster Cu3Mes(OBz)2 (40percent yield) with two bridging benzoato groups and one bridging, three-centre, two-electron bonded mesityl group .
