The crystal structure of the compound (selenito-O-O prime )bis(triphenylphosphine)platinum(II)-benzene(1/1) has been determined by a single-crystal X-ray analysis. The compound crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1 OVER BAR with a equals 10. 651(2) A, b equals 12. 812(2) A, c equals 15. 473(2) A; alpha equals 85. 76(1) degree , beta equals 73. 39(1) degree , gamma equals 68. 52(1) degree and z equals 2. The structure has been refined to an R value of 0. 036. The platinum has a square-planar coordination geometry with the selenito-ligand bonded in a bidentate fashion through the oxygen atoms with Pt-O equals 2. 049(5) A and 2. 052(5) A.
