Direct carbonylation of cis-[Pt(C₆X₅)₂(OC₄H ₈)₂] (X = F (1), Cl (2)) with CO (room temperature, P_CO ≈ 1 atm) gives cis-[Pt(C₆X₅)₂(CO)₂] (X = F (3), Cl (4)) as white, stable solids. The synthesis of trans-[Pt(C₆F₅)₂(CO)₂] (5) by carbonylation of (NBu₄) [trans-Pt(C₆F₅)₂Cl(CO)] in the presence of AgClO₄ is also described. Addition of neutral or anionic ligands to dichloromethane solutions of 3, 4, or 5 results in substitution of one CO group and affords cis- or trans-[Pt(C₆X₅)₂L(CO)]^n- (n = 0, 1).
