Metatheses between lithium tetracyanoquinodimethanide, Li(TCNQ.-), and the copper chelate with tetrabenzo<1,5,9,13>tetraazacyclohexadecine (taab) yielded semiconductive complexes Cu(taab)(TCNQ)n(n = 1.5 or 2): the conductivities were 0.015 and 0.04 S cm-1 for Cu(taab)(TCNQ)2 and Cu(taab)(TCNQ)1.5, respectively, at 300 K, and the activation energies were 0.086 eV for the former and 0.058 eV for the latter. These complexes were characterized with the aid of electron spin resonance, infrared, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopies and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The compounds can be formulated as a partial electron transfer occurs from a nonintegral oxidation number of copper.
