Arenecarbonylcobalt cluster with functional substituents in a side chain

Arenecarbonyl clusters of type (arene)Co4(CO)9 (II) nCH=CH2 (n=2, 3), Ph(CH2)2Br, Mes(CH2)3OH, C6Me5CH2OH, Mes(CH2)3COOEt, Ph(CH2)_nFe(CO)2Cp (n=1, 2) and Mes(CH2)3MesCr(CO)3> were prepared by reaction of Co2(CO)8 with various arenes in hexane.This compounds obtained are rather unstable with respect to strong nucleophilic agents.The complex Me3C6H3Co4(CO)8PPh3 (III) was prepared via photochemical substitution of CO by triphenylphos ine and its properties were investigated.Complexes II react with electrophiles in a different manner depending on the nature of the latter.Soome properties of arenecarbonylcobalt clusters and arenechromium tricarbonyls are compared.
