A new method for the synthesis of bisbenzopyrylium salts was developed.The new method is based on the acylation of 1,4-bis(3,4-dimethoxyphenylacetyl)benzene with carboxylic acid anhydrides in the presence of perchloric acid or with carboxylic acids in polyphosphoric acid.
