Treatment of 4-PPh)2(μ₂-CO)(CO)10> with NaBH4 leads to the formation of 4-PPh)2(μ₂-H)(μ₂-CO)2(CO)8>^- which readily adds protons and carbon monoxide to produce 3-PPh)2(μ₂-H)2(CO)12>; X-ray crystallographic studies have revealed that while the Ru4P2 framework adopts a closo octahedral geometry in 4-PPh)2(μ₂-H)(μ₂-CO)2(CO)8>^-, it adopts a closo trigonal prismatic one in 3-PPh)2(μ₂-H)2(CO)12>
