The maximum yield that can be obtained for these compounds
is 5%.

For a review on the structure and dynamics of Pd complexes
(chiral), see: P. S. Pregosin, R. Salzmann, Coord. Chem. Rev.
1996, 155, 35–68. Pregosin and Albitani have recently shown
that the rates of η3-η1 allyl isomerization in [(NHC)Pd(allyl)X]
complexes depend on the X ligand. The rate constant for the
allyl exchange was found to be higher when X is a weakly coor-
dinating ligand (k = 6.2 s–1 for X = OTf and k = 1.3 s–1 for X
= Cl), see ref.[13l]

This species was already isolated in our group (unpublished
results) and has also been observed by Cavell and co-workers
(see ref.[17]).
Although a complete conversion was measured by 1H NMR
spectroscopy by comparison with the internal standard in
many experiments, the isolated yield of 3 is often lower. This
difference between conversions and isolated yields is not always
significant and the high isolated yields obtained with complex
6 are reproducible.

The reactions were performed with the racemate of 1. The use
of enantiopure α-methylbenzylamine in the palladium-cata-
lyzed allylic amination with the racemate of 1 and chiral or
achiral Pd complexes has already been reported and similar
low dr’s have been observed: a) H. Tye, D. Smyth, C. Eldred,
