The reaction of NH3 with C4F9SO2OCH2CF3 has been shown to yield, depending on the molar ratio, F3CCH2NH2, (F3CCH2)2NH and the novel tertiary amine (F3CCH2)3N (III).Halogenation of (III) with Br2 and Cl2 at the α-position formed (F3CCH2)2NCBrHCF3, F3CCH2N(CBrHCF3)2 and N(CClHCF3)3.Compound (III) was found to be extremely toxic with a strong anesthetic effect accompanied by convulsions.
