22. The synthesis of 8 was also carried out using 19 and 11 as reactants. We are
unable to report an exact yield for this reaction since 8 could not be separated
from unreacted 19 by column chromatography.
23. Several activating agents and conditions were examined for the synthesis of
cinnamic amide 8 from amine 16 and acid 20. Among DCC–DMAP, oxalyl
chloride and EDC–DMAP, the described procedure (Ref. 20) was the only
method to produce 8 in quantities useful for characterisation and analysis.
