holding great potential for the therapeutic strategies to PD
treatment. Indeed, although in our study the co-drug was
administered with the neurotoxin, a common pitfall of
animal models, our results showed a therapeutic superiority
of LD-GPE over LD, which, to date, is the most effective
medication for controlling PD symptoms. We also showed
an inverse correlation between Nrf2 and NF-jB, not found
in the LD treated animals, that might explain the observed
reduction in glial activation, thus supporting the proposal
that increased expression of antioxidant genes via Nrf2
activation might be a feasible therapeutic target to reduce
neuronal death and inflammation in PD patients.
