Nonakis(phenyl isocyanide)diiron was prepared by sodium amalgam reduction of either cis- or trans-[FeI₂(CNPh)₄]. The new complex was characterized spectroscopically and by single-crystal X-ray analysis. Crystal data: monoclinic, space group P2₁/n, a = 12.692 (5) ?, b = 27.086 (8) ?, c = 15.735 (3) ?, β = 92.90 (2)°, V = 5402 (3) ?³, Z = 4, R = 0.032.
