A synthesis of the tetrahydrofuro[2,3-b]indole (3) in 6 steps from 4-methoxyaniline involving a key cobalt-mediated radical cyclisation is presented. This heterocycle is a known, late intermediate in the synthesis of the alkaloid physovenine (2).
