Reaction of 6,6-diarylfulvene dianions with dichloromethane yields 1,1-diarylspiro<2.4>hepta-4,6-dienes, and reduction of the diphenylspiroheptadiene with lithium metal or lithium naphthalene cleanly generates a novel homopentafulvene dianion.
