The triphosphazene (CF3)2P=N=P(CF3)2=N=PPh3 (L), prepared by the reaction of (CF3)2PN3 with (CF3)2P=N=PPh3, has been found to afford the cluster > (1) with .Both L and 1 have been shown by X-ray crystallography to have an unusual and highly delocalised P=N=P=N=P moiety containing P^IV, P^V and P^VI atoms.
