A simple and efficient method for the direct symmetrical bis-acylation of spermidine and other linear triamines using acylimidazoles is described.By this procedure, the siderophore natural product N¹,N⁸-bis(2,3-dihydroxybenzoyl) spermidine was synthesized in an overall yield of 70percent in two steps.
