The synthesis and characterization of 2-(1,3-benzodithiol-2-ylidene)-1,3-benzoxathiole (dibenzo-oxatrithiafulvalene, DBOTTF), the first example of a tetraheterofulvalene containing oxygen within the fulvalene moiety, are described. Redox potentials of DBOTTF are compared with the other known dibenzotetraheterofulvalene derivatives.
