The bicapped cluster <<μ₃-HgI>2> (1) was obtained by reacting the cluster compound with one equivalent of .The IR and multinuclear NMR data as well as the X-ray crystal structure of the compound are reported.This compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2₁/m with Z = 4, a = 10.086(2), b = 18.739(4), c = 24.764(5) Angstroem, and β = 90.94(3) deg.The structure was refined to R = 0.0787 for 3303 observed reflections (I <*> 3.0?(I)).Keywords: Platinum; Mercury; Cluster; NMR-spectroscopy; X-ray structure; Heterobimetallics
