Treatment of 2-PhC2Ph)2(η-C5H5)> with Li in THF affords the η²(3e)-vinyl/η²(2e)-alkyne complex (H)Ph>(η²-PhC2Ph)(η-C5H5)> and the transoid-η⁴(5e)-butadienyl complex 3-C(Ph)C(Ph)C(H)Ph>(η-C5H5)>, the latter containing a metal to carbon double bond and a novel 'bent' rhenium to carbon bond.
