The preparation of ketal-enone (3) and hydroxy-ketones (1a), (16) and (4a), from (-)-camphor (6) represents a formal enantiospecific synthesis of (+)-carpesiolin, (+)-confertin, (-)-damsin, (-)-helenalin, (+)-bigelovin, (+)-mexicanin I, and (+)-linifolin A.
