was added to a solution of 6 (2.26 g, 4.53 mmol) in concentrated
HCl (3 mL) and EtOH (100 mL), and the suspension was
degassed three times with N2. After stirring under hydrogen
(1 atm, 3 h), the catalyst was filtered off and washed with
water (10 mL). The solvents were removed under reduced
pressure to give a white solid. Recrystallization from aqueous
EtOH gave 1.5 g (72%) of 7 as a crystalline solid: NMR (D2O)

(0.08 g) were added to a solution of 4 (0.764 g, 1.73 mmol) in
methanol (100 mL), and the suspension was flushed three
times with nitrogen. The mixture was exposed to hydrogen
for 3 h at atmospheric pressure followed by filtration of catalyst
on Celite. The filtrate was evaporated in vacuo to give a white
solid. Recrystallization from aqueous ethanol produced 0.56
