Oxidative desulfurization-fluorination of RCH₂C(SMe)₃ using n-Bu₄NH₂F₃ and 1,3-dibromo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin gave RCHBrCF₂SMe in good yields. The products were converted into difluorobromo olefins. Under similar conditions ArCH₂C(SMe)₃ afforded ArCBr₂CF₂SMe. The mechanism of the partial difluorination accompanied by bromination is discussed.
