Synthesis of enantiopure (nor)-azatropanes via N-acylhydrazonium ion intermediates

The synthesis of a number of aza-analogues of (nor)tropanes is described. Key features of the synthesis include the efficient preparation of an enantiopure 5-substituted 3-pyrazolidinone and stereoselective cyclization of an N-acylhydrazonium ion intermediate.
