Phenol-pyridine enthalpies and free energies of hydrogen bond formation in cyclohexane, CCl4, and benzene solvents have been determined by calorimetric measurements.Schematic mapping techniques show that only 1:1 phenol-pyridine complexes exist in solution under the experimental conditions used. The enthalpy differences in the three solvents are explained in terms of dipolar and specific interactions of the acid base with solvent.
