Photochemically induced metathesis of RCH=CHR' olefins with W(CO)6 and CCl4 gives RCH=CCl2 and R'CH=CCl2.W(CO)6 in CCl4 reacts under illumination with cyclic enol ethers to give products resulting from the insertion of metalladichlorocarbene moieties into the carbon-carbon double bond.A mechanism for the formation of these compounds is outlined.
