The reactions of SO2 with and NO with have been shown to result in the formation of and , which arise from ready oxygen-transfer reactions.A compound which analyses correctly for has also been isolated from these reactions and is formulated as an insertion product on the basis of i.r. and chemical studies.The reaction of with SO2 proceeds in a quite different fashion and gives an SO2 adduct which has both a linear and a bent NO ligand.This complex is readily oxidised to the corresponding sulphato-complex in air.
