N,N-Dibenzyl and N,N-diallyl β,γ-unsaturated amides undergo cyclization on irradiation to give the corresponding pyrrolidin-2-ones via an unprecedented 1,6-hydrogen shift in acyclic olefins, while N,N-diethyl and N,N-diisopropyl β,γ-unsaturated amides are unreactive toward photolysis.
