The synthesis, characterization, and ligand substitution reactions of Fe2(PPh2)2(CO)6 (1) and Na2Fe2(PPh2)2(CO) 6·5THF (4) are presented. Reaction of 4 with alkylating agents affords directly the acyl complexes NaFe2(PPh2)2(CO)5[C(O)R]·THF, (6). A mechanism involving intramolecular, metal-promoted alkyl migration is proposed. Reaction of 1 with lithium reagents affords LiFe2(PPh2)2(CO) 5[C(O)R]·3THF.
