Enantiomeric trans-benzylphenyl<β-(carbomethoxy)vinyl>phosphine oxide (6) undergoes regio- and stereoselective cycloaddition to 1-vinylnaphthalene (5), providing two diastereomeric adducts 7a and 7b, which are further transformed into optically pure 17-phosphasteroid systems by intramolecular Dieckmann-type condensation.
