A new scheme was developed for the synthesis of 2,4-dimethyl-5,6-dihydro-6-bromomethylthieno<2,3-d>pyrimidine by bromination of the corresponding 5-allyl-6-mercaptopyrimidine.It is shown that when the bromomethyl derivative is treated with sodium methoxide a molecule of hydrogen bromide is split out to give 2,4,6-trimethylthieno<2,3-d>pyrimidine.The structures of the synthesized compounds were proved by PMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry.
