With the use of X-ray crystallographic and EPR methods, a new class of clusters discovered in the course of research on the coordination chemistry of benzotriazole was investigated. They are structurally well defined at room temperature and exhibit a dynamical Jahn-Teller effect with certain unique features that have not previously been reported. These materials are the mixed-valence clusters Cu//5(BTA)//6(RNC)//4 left bracket R equals alkyl, aryl; BTA equals benzotriazolato( minus 1) right bracket .
